Track 2 – Thing 13: Media Skills

I see a lot of things I would like to try in here…especially making animated GIF’s, Clipping Magic and creating images with quotes…

I tried quizio but didn’t like how you had to download, especially if using at school. So instead I used the snipping tool, saved it, and created this jpeg:

Irish

Not the greatest resolution this way though…

Here’s one from wigflip.com/roflbot which was an easy save to the computer:

Although I couldn’t see the text after I typed it in to be able to move the text around…

Remodel

A GIF I created using picts rom the library remodel. I will have this rolling on the whiteboard during parent/teacher conferences this week.

Just discovered PIXLR! Love it! Easy to use, and could see the text and move it around.  http://pixlr.com/express/

Track 1 Thing 5: Digital Storytelling and Presentation Tools

Animoto!

New Fiction at the Middle School!

All images of books from goodreads.com

Need to work on arrangement of the book titles…the title of the book does not fully show…Let’s try this again! More and better Animoto book titles to come…?

New Books Part 2

I just needed to change the style…much better this time around  😉

I embed Animoto into my library classroom pages to highlight any new books. I like the embed feature as it keeps staff and students at my pages.

***********************************************************************************************

I really loved these links. I shared them with the staff, offering to walk them and the students through anything they might be interested in using.

Image search tools:

  • PhotoPin – My first stop for photo searching. Very easy to use and searches a number of sources for CC licensed photos.
  • CC search – search for images, video and music from one search page. Handy!
  • Flickr advanced search – Scroll to the botton of the screen and select the Creative Commons setting & “Find content to modify, adapt, or build upon”
  • Copyright Friendly Images – a list of resources from Joyce Valenza

I also created a Storybird. I may share it with the Creative Writing Class, and have them come up with stories to read to and share with some of the elementary library classes.

Track 1 Thing 4 RSS

This is the third time I have gone to Netvibes and have not been successful in setting up a dashboard…There doesn’t seem to be a “help” page…perhaps I need to Google a how to for Netvibes…? I see other people are crazy happy with RSS feeds and Netvibes…But the “vibes” don’t seem to be getting to me yet 😉 I consider myself sorta tech savvy, but not with Netvibes. Feeling frustrated…

Track 1 Thing 3 Photo Fun

Looking forward to learning some new photo tools in this track! I am a huge amateur photographer and love taking lots of pictures. I am hoping to  discover something “cool” to create an album to give to my friend for Christmas from our Key West trip.

Here is a Tellegami I created on my phone with the app :

https://tellagami.com/gami/RHDOPY/

I tried to post it directly into Twitter, but it wouldn’t go. I copied and pasted the link into Twitter and posted it there that way.  May use it with 7th grade after the holiday to share stories from break…

LOVE the spine poem idea…I have seen it before but kept forgetting about it. Perhaps now I will remember and co plan something with the 7th or 8th grade ELA teachers…

OK, so I created a Flickr account, I seem to have uploaded photos in a photostream, but Flickr says I don’t have one…tried a few things, but not having any luck. Guess I will log off, then back in again. Thought it would be easy! I must be missing something… Oh, well, back to it!

Thing #2 Online Communities & Personal Learning Networks

11/22/13 – Watched a few videos on hashtags #. I do believe I understand them now! Attempted to go here to watch a couple of #conversations, but site is down. Down for good? Not sure…

tweetgrid “Due to Twitter’s API changes, TweetGrid will be down for a bit.”

11/18/13-  Hooray! Information in detail on using Twitter! I have a Twitter account, but use it sparingly because I never understood what hashtags were all about. Looks like this week I may be able to finally get the gist of Twitter. TWEET TWEET

Thing 11 continued…

11/19 – Created an account and began a WGCSD buildings history “thread”…

In contact with 12th grade history teacher to have her students research the history of the town and its people. I think this would be a great resource to have them place their info and scanned pictures from the past…

11/19 – 8th grade SS teacher going to use GeoGuesser in library with class next week!

11/13 – Played with GeoGuessr today. Could not get the help menu to work. Had a lot of fun with it, though!

Shall share with the 7th and 8th grade SS teachers this week!
